Spring, St George's day and Patriotism

This is the third time that I have tried to enter a post for the first time in over 18 months.....Perhaps this time I shall be successful so I'd better keep it short!

I was meditating on the notion of spring and then I dwelt on St George's day and the lamentable lack of patriotism in England..

Perhaps my readers, if I get any, would like to let me know their thoughts about the season of spring and English patriotism.... Do you think that it is important to be patriotic or do you think that there is too much to be ashamed about in being English for us to be proud to belong to this island nation...?

Do let me know....!

Good question. I wonder where patriotism actually comes from? You cannot tell people to become patriotic can you? The British are far too cynical. :)

:D Wow I remember coming here a long time back. I'm surprised you've put up just 2 posts! =P

Anyway, the English seem very patriotic. =)

Steve, not being English, I can only comment on being American! And that holds its own contradictory questions. But from afar, I am always humbled and impressed by the spiritual history of Britain. That is a national treasure that God will continue to honor as humble individuals seek Him. Peace! ~Suz.

Yes, definitely. I am of a generation where we mostly all had large union jacks and large flag poles that we managed somehow to fix to our windows. The old type that dropped down onto the pole were easier. They went out Empire Day, St. George's Day and other celebrations like coronation and such.

As children we went to school in our Brownie, Guide, Scout etc uniforms on those days too.

Why shouldn't we be proud of living in such a beautiful country that did so much good around the world. Now Iknow there are those that will want to disagree and look only at the damage we have done but in the end why is it that so many want to come and live here. We are one of the most moderate countries in the world, climate wise and everything else.

I don't usualy get into discussions and debates on line. Hope I don't regret it!

What am I? Born in South Africa of Indian ancestry,am now a citizen of UK.I am a proud and patriotic human being India .South Africa and Britain. What does that make me then-a cosmopolitan.Britain is a beautiful isle. but has a rubbish climate! We should celebrate St George's day-should most certainly have this day as a bank holiday!
